How to Transfer your Google Drive to a Personal Account

Learn how to transfer drive files from your school account to a personal account

For teachers and students exiting Conroe ISD you will want to choose one of the following two options to take the items you are the OWNER of in your Drive with you. You will not get any items “shared with you” through this process.

Note: If you are not the owner of an item it will not be included in your drive transfer.

This process can take some time depending on the amount of storage. Please start this well ahead of your last day.

Option 1: Transfer

For this option you will want to make sure that you have enough storage in the account you are sending content to.

Step 1: Click Start Transfer

Option 2: Download

Don’t want to take everything? - Pick and Choose Your Content From Your CISD Drive
You can pick and choose items or whole folders to download and save to an external storage device like a USB flash drive. When these items are put back into a Google account they will show up in the Google format (Doc, Sheets, Slides etc.).

This would not be the preferred option when taking large amounts of stored items.

Step 1 | Select the item or folder, right click, select download.

This will download the item onto your device. You will need to be sure to choose the correct destination. Be sure to place it in an external storage or download on your personal computer.

Step 2 | Find a home for your files

After downloading, open the file and choose "Extract all" or "Unzip". The folder will be accessible on your desktop.

You can also take the Zipped file and add it to a personal Google Drive then unzip the file.

When you double click the file in Google Drive you will get an option at the top to use an UnZip tool.
