How to Reactivate Google Authenticator on a New Phone
(Use this guide ONLY if you have set up a temporary login method like SMS or Image and after you have purchased your new phone)
This document walks you through the final steps of setting up your new phone. It assumes you previously set up a temporary login method (like SMS or Image) so you could access your account during the transition.
1. Download the App
On your new phone, download the Google Authenticator app from the App Store or Play Store.
Important: Please avoid transferring the app from an old phone backup, as the old connection will not work. You need a fresh installation.
2. Log in with Temporary Method
Log into your SSO on a computer.
Instruction: Since your app isn't linked yet, use the temporary method (SMS Text or Image) you set up previously to complete the login.
3. Return to App Settings
Now that you are logged in, you need to switch your settings back to the app.
Go to Settings > Security in the right hand corner of your profile.
Change the dropdown menu from your temporary method back to Mobile Authenticator.
Click Configure.
4. Generate a New QR Code
Select Reset Authenticator. A new square QR Code will appear on your computer screen.
5. Scan the QR Code
Open the Google Authenticator app on your phone.
Tap the Plus (+) sign > Scan a QR Code.
Scan the code displayed on your computer.
Warning: Please avoid using your phone's standard camera app. You must scan it inside the Google Authenticator app.
6. Verify and Save
Enter the 6-digit code from the app into your computer and click Save. You are now fully set up on your new device.
