This FAQ is provided for clarification and convenience only. It summarizes common scenarios related to campus-based professional technology but does not supersede the Campus-Based Professional Technology Handbook, Acceptable Use Guidelines, or district policy.


Device Assignment & Responsibility

Q: Is the laptop assigned to me or to my classroom/office?

A: The laptop and official charger are checked out to the professional staff member through Incident IQ (IIQ). While the device may be associated with a classroom or office location, the professional staff member is responsible for the laptop.

Q: Can I take my laptop home?

A: Yes, you may take the laptop home.

Q: Can I let someone else use my laptop?

A: Any employee in the district can log into any laptop. Students should not use any employee devices.

Q: Can I personalize my laptop?

A: Wallpaper and color theme, yes! Adding stickers, not directly on the laptop. If you buy a case then you can add the stickers to the case itself.

Q: Does my laptop travel with me if I change rooms or offices?

A: Yes. Assigned laptops travel with the professional staff member when changing classrooms or offices within the same campus.

Q: What happens to my laptop if I move to another campus?

A: If you transfer to a different campus, your laptop must be checked in at the campus where it was originally issued. A laptop will be issued at your new campus.

Q: Am I responsible for my laptop during the summer?

A: Yes. Professional staff members are responsible for their assigned laptop year-round, including during the summer months. The same care, security, and acceptable use expectations apply.

Q: Can I just keep my desktop?

A: No, the campus-based professional technology standard is that every professional will get a laptop assigned to them.

Q: How do I secure my laptop at night?

A: Professional staff members are responsible for securing their assigned laptop when it is not in use, including overnight.

The district does not prescribe a specific storage method; each individual is responsible for determining how and where to secure the laptop based on their workspace and circumstances.

Classroom/Office Equipment

Q: What equipment stays in the classroom or office?

A: Docking stations, monitors, and related peripherals are assigned to the classroom or office and do not travel with the individual.

Q: Can I take my docking station or monitor with me if I move rooms?

A: No. Classroom/office equipment assigned to the classroom/office must remain in the assigned space.

Q: I have two monitors in my classroom, can I keep them both?

A: As part of the standard setup, each workspace will receive one new monitor.

If an existing monitor is compatible with the setup, one current monitor may remain in use as part of the workspace configuration.

Software, Access & Settings

Q: Do I have administrative rights on my laptop?

A: No. All software and applications must follow district approval processes. Specific process to download approved software is being developed.

File Storage & Data

Q: Can I save files directly to my laptop?

A: No. Files should not be saved locally on the laptop.

Use approved storage locations:

  • U: Drive (personal storage)

  • S: Drive (campus shared storage)

  • Google Drive (district-managed)

Care, Transport & Accessories

Q: Does the district provide a laptop case or bag?

A: No. Conroe ISD does not provide laptop cases or carrying bags. Professional staff members may choose to use a personal protective case or bag.

Q: Can I put stickers or labels on my laptop?

A: No. Stickers, decals, skins, or other modifications are not permitted on district-issued devices.

Support, Assistance & Repair

Q: What should I do if my laptop or classroom technology isn’t working?

A: All issues should be reported directly through Incident IQ (IIQ). Depending on the issue:

  • Campus Technology Contact will resolve or escalate to

  • District Tech Support will resolve or escalate to

  • Dell Support

Q: Will I get a loaner while my laptop is being repaired?

A: Yes. Your campus will need to check out a Chromebook to you while your laptop is out for repair.
